Roots of Empathy
Exciting things have been happening in our Roots of Empathy Programs! This year we are fortunate to have two families participating in this program. Our students have met their "teachers" -- baby Patrick and his mommy meet with the Kindergarten & Grade 1 students and baby Kinsley and her mommy meet with the Grades 3 & 4 students.
We have had the opportunity to teach students that some things babies can do now, and some things they are not able to do yet. We introduce the term "not yet" rather than "no they can not" so that children will begin to understand that we do know, for example, that babies will one day be able to walk. This also teaches them that babies learn and grow at different paces, just like all of them! This is also an excellent opportunity to remind students about how we are always sure to be kind to a baby, and that we need to treat our friends the same way.
Thank you to our Roots of Empathy families for volunteering your time to allow us to teach our students about empathy! It would not be possible if you and your little "teachers" didn't share a piece of your lives with us!
